Water is life, and clean water means health.
Audrey Hepburn
Water is very simply put, underrated. While there are famous cleaning solutions that professional cleaners stand by, water is the main ingredient in any cleaning sauce. Let’s dive in on the many ways we underestimate water:
- Water is the base ingredient in any cleaning product sold in stores. We have it flowing from our faucets yet we purchase cleaners of up to 90% water and the rest chemicals. Do we really need the chemicals? No, we don’t. The next item will explain why.
- Steam is water in the form of gas, it is dangerous if it touches the skin, however, steam kills most germs, bacteria, dust mites, flea eggs, and viruses. The top cleaning agent for sterilization is steam. For more info about the power of steam check out this Better Homes and Garden article.
- Hot water, I know many older people who only use hot water and newspaper to clean glass and mirrors. This technique is green reusing paper waste and the finish is clear and streak-free, besides we shouldn’t argue with our elders.
- Alkaline water – 9.5 pH water is great for cleaning, uses are limitless from brightening grout to cleaning a wound. Check this article out about The Many Uses of Alkaline Water Beyond Drinking.
- We wash ourselves with it. – Because of this fact, we know it’s safe. To go further, we are made up of 70% water. By the way, babies are made in a womb of water, literally bringing forth life in the purest form.

As the undisputed champion in the cleaning process (and life), water has proven to have more to offer than what meets the eye. Being a natural resource we must appreciate the wealth of nourishment and cleansing water has for us. Use in your daily cleaning routine rather than costly cleaning products will not only save money but it will also save the planet by not creating water pollution and plastic bottles.
