Fengtion Series: Colors

Colors are the smiles of nature.

Leigh Hunt

Colors, colors, colors, so many to choose from, and not enough rooms in one house for them all! How can anyone decide what color or colors, to choose for a project? To make matters even more complicated, there are almost as many ways scientifically to choose, coupled with different cultures globally that attach meaning to certain colors, and spiritual ways to select colors for oneself it can be overwhelming. The Forever Fengtion process will take a few pointers from Feng Shui on the varied moods colors can influence.

Before diving into a lesson on color mood therapy, there are a few questions we can ask ourselves to gain a personal understanding of our own feelings toward colors. For example, are colors that bring you joy? Sadness? If you know, you know, you know? A few other questions to ask are:

  • What is the purpose of the room?
  • What colors have positive effects on you?
  • Is the space calling for productivity or rest?

With the answers to the above questions, we paint a color wheel that will compliment, accent, and attract the intended results for each space.

Color Mood Therapy

As you review the above Color Therapy Chart, know that it is important to know how colors make you feel. Yes, there is the science that drives this chart but you are unique and should consider your own feelings in relation to color rather than disregard them. If there is one takeaway from this it should be that you are central to the success of any space and therefore are the main variable in all things.

While using the Color Therapy Chart, there is further guidance to offer. Each room has a purpose and therefore certain colors are assigned to rooms as follows:

  • REDS/ ORANGES / YELLOWS are for LIVING ROOMS/ PLAYROOMS / POWDER ROOMS / UTILITY ROOMS / SUNROOMS
  • BLUES / GREENS are for BEDROOMS / BATHROOMS / DINING ROOMS / HALLWAYS / CLOSETS
  • WHITES / OFF WHITES/ GRAYS / BEIGES are for ART STUDIOS / CRAFT ROOMS/ KITCHENS
  • BLACKS / NAVIES / DARK GRAYS are for WORK-FROM-HOME SPACES / ENTRYWAYS / LAUNDRY ROOMS

Using the Color Therapy Chart along with the suggested rooms for each color, you can find the perfect color for your space. If colors are still intimidating, then white walls never go out of fashion. You can add color in many different ways through furniture, accent walls, art, and other decor. Color can enhance as much as it can overwhelm, follow the tips shared and you will find the right color.
