The waste we generate is remarkable, it really is. Look around you, what are you not using in your space? What has been used and now is useless? What’s piling up on chairs, tables, and stairs? We have an enormous amount of things thanks to unrelenting commercials, social media, and shiny signs that light our streets reminding of us what we don’t have, and what we don’t need but want. We are prompted to make purchases due to ingenious (well-researched) marketing campaigns. Who can ignore Fast Fashion? Forget about it! The result is a bunch of stuff we don’t use or need. How can we address this? Forever Fengtion has one option, find second-hand shops that will pay cash on the spot or offer consignment. The process is quick in terms of getting your items out and knowing what you’re getting in return. What isn’t sellable, donate or dispose of responsibly. Many donation centers offer to pick up large items. When thinking about your space, consider the items that can immediately be removed based on the following guidelines :

- Broken / Damaged – If the item is broken it is bad Feng Shui for your space, therefore trash it or repair it. Broken or damaged items bring negative energy into your space. The slightest malfunction or scratch is worthy of addressing or discarding, the negative energy is not worth the item’s presence.
- Unused or unopened – If the item has not been used in a long time (a year for example) or since purchase and no date set for use is scheduled, it must go. Keeping things that others can benefit from blocks the positive flow of energy. Everything has a purpose, items not being used for their purpose cannot provide the intended positive energy by their design.
- Ill-gotten – Anything obtained through immoral means is bad energy. The item will not bring positive energy to the owner because of the origin of ownership. Stolen, contested, or otherwise, ill-gotten possessions (an item from a giver you don’t like counts too) will only bring harm to the owner. These items must be returned or given away in a manner that will provide positivity to a new owner.
- Filthy – If the item is in a state or condition that cleaning will not be able to restore it to its original look or purpose then discard the item. However, if cleaning can restore the item then do so if there is intent to keep the item for use. One of the main concepts in Feng Shui is that dirt is low energy. Therefore, having filthy or dirty things will cause low vibrations around you. Also, dust affects the lungs, therefore the body in a negative way. Let us not forget, dirty things are gross, they do not promote good vibrations for the mind and soul. The more things we have the more things that will need cleaning. If the item does not have use or have beauty or value, it probably isn’t needed so just get rid of it rather than try to clean something that ultimately will not bring positive vibes because it isn’t useful or going to bring joy once cleaned. Save your time and let items in that area go where it belongs, the trash/donation pile.
After going through your space and determining what is trash, bag it / box it up and take it out. There are times when the task is easy, and there are times when it’s hard. Easy would look like, you have. dumpster or large garbage area to take your trash, quickly and with ease. Hard would be the opposite and the removal of trash would be more of a process. In that case, a holding area for these items to remain as you find the time and energy to remove them would be ideal. Begin with what you can get out immediately and set the rest aside, out of sight is preferred. As you make your plans include trips to the dump or donation centers and grab a bag or two as you head out. I would put items in my trunk so when passing by a donation center in my travels, I make a quick stop. Remember to set appointments for pick up of large items or for resale (some consignment shops require an appointment to sell) where available. And last but not least, ask for help from friends or family, and in a week or so and your load will be much lighter.

Once you have seen the extent of your waste, commit to not being so wasteful. Forever Fengtion is about functioning forever, which means making real changes for success. Being aware of your spending is another window into what is/was important to you. Commit to a creative lifestyle, we can create environments of peace where waste has a place and it’s in the trash.
